Hmm, I'm getting the feeling I am the only one who liked "Vivacious Lady" ('38) with Ginger Rogers and Jimmy Stewart. Everyone seems to say it was "a disappointment" or something similar (at least according to random reviews I've seen). But then I'm one of the few who didn't like what someone would consider a typical "classic" such as "The Philadelphia Story," so that proves I'm always the one to beg to differ. :-) But, anyhow, the best part of it was definitely the catfight Ginger gets into with some dame who wants Jimmy, too (and who also proceeds to stick a hatpin in her behind!). I wish I had a picture of that to post here...But they made such a cute couple, didn't they?

Awww! And in real life:

This one makes me laugh since I remember reading in Ginger's autobiography how she and Katharine didn't get along too well. I should read it over again to get all the details. I know there was a specific incident of some sort. I thought it was funny that Katharine didn't write anything about it (at least not that I remember, correct me if I'm wrong) in her book other than how she didn't mind Ginger getting top billing for "Stage Door" ('37, a film I used to love in middle school, by the way).
Another one I liked that no one else did:

It was a bit odd, with changing from comedy to serious drama within the first half hour or so, but I still enjoyed it. Current Mood: pretending to be busy Current Music: Ginger Rogers, "Music Makes Me" (from "Flying Down to Rio")

I agree with you on THe Philadelphia Story. I mean, I like the film alright, but I still feel that it's way over hyped.
I can see where Ginger and Kate might not get along. Kate strikes me as someone difficult to get to know ( and I should know, being that way myself in real life.)
Have not seen either Vivacious Lady or Once Upon a Honeymoon.;/
I'm glad more than one person agrees with me about that film! Another one I didn't like was "Holiday" ('38, I believe). Oh, well, I guess I'm not much of a Katharine fan. I sort of feel similar about myself when it comes to either understanding me or just getting to know me in general... I've never seen the movie, but it sounds right up my alley. I've learned it's best to ignore all reviews. I agree, reviews are usually silly. You should really see it when it comes on TCM again. I don't think it's available on VHS in the US, though. Someone should release it soon. I agree about Philadelphia Story too. It's one of those very talky films....it's OK I guess. But it's not laugh out loud funny. I don't even like the story that much. I love Philadelphia story...Katherine was amazing in that film.
And Stage Door....Lucille Ball was so adorable.
on another note....i noticed that Katherines roles have always strike me to be very bitchy roles. I mean she is a high strong spoken women, I wouldnt be surprised if she had some kind of influence in her roles.
I used to admire Lucille Ball when she was younger so much. I liked her best with that blonde hair she had in the early 30's. So cute. That's so true about her roles! I suppose it is weird I don't like her that much as I tend to like overly assertive ladies. Well, in old movies, mostly. :-) yeah...she was cute during those times. This past weekend my gf and I stayed in watching all "I love lucy" shows. We had a horrible storm and thats all we were able to do...hehehe "I Love Lucy" was a favorite of mine during childhood. I haven't watched it in years, but I really should again. TV Land started showing episodes again; fabulous. |
